Got a soft spot for Poco? Wondering what goes on at board meetings?

Poco is run by volunteers, and has been since 1961. You probably already know that in 2011 about $60,000 was embezzled by Poco’s treasurer, and the pool very nearly closed in 2016. We weren’t sure we’d be open in 2017, but a new group of people joined the board and though several fundraisers and a lot of dedication, we climbed out of the hole and are coming back strong!

Every person on this board is a volunteer, giving their time and knowledge to help make a Poco a better place. We love the pool and pay for our memberships just like you. We are working to keep the pool going for our kids, and to ensure the pool remains viable in the future.

The very fact that you’re looking at this page means you’re interested in the board (unless you’re here because you’re trying to figure out who to yell at…in which case, let’s pretend you never saw this). Poco’s board is fun and relaxed. We often meet at the ’07 Pub or at the pool. We don’t meet at all from October to after the holidays. Then starting in January we meet once a month, increasing our meetings as we get closer to the beginning of the season. Meetings usually last an hour to an hour and a half.

Why not join us for a meeting? You don’t have to commit. Just come and see what we do. If you like it, you’re in. We try to keep 12 on the board. A full board lightens the workload for everyone, keeping it a fun volunteer activity that directly benefits you and your family. What do we do at board meetings? We make decisions about how to run the pool, solve problems, decide how to get money (we *always* need money), and drink beer.
